I was at a loss for words. My last post ended with “RIP to Akai Gurley”, a young black father, who was killed because he wanted to use the stairs instead of the elevators. His death was then defended by former New York City mayor, Rudolph Giuliani. Then came the non-indictment of officer Daniel Pantaleo who killed Eric Garner, another black father. Finally, there was Geraldo and his never needed two-cent commentary. That was just in New York.

Yesterday during the Millions March NYC provided a little bit of hope. I marched as one out of many. While chanting in unison, I started to take notice of the signs. Some were hand written, some were a yard long and some were in different languages. Just like the marchers, the signs had their own voice. If you didn’t hear the chanting, you saw the signs. Signs that called out the injustices of the past and the present and believed in equality of the future.
