the wynter wonderland course

Guess who is bizack?

Wynter in the Summer 2026!

The course will be held virtually on Wednesdays, July 8–August 12, 2026 and meet at 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM ET. This adjustment allows for a more accessible and intentional learning experience aligned with the course’s collaborative design.

Wynter Wonderland and Wynter in the Summer are transformative 6-week virtual courses that critiques Western concepts of “the human” and emphasizes the decolonization of knowledge with a Hip Hop womanist lens. These courses focus on Black women to explore race, gender, and their relationship in and out of colonial power structures. These interdisciplinary courses integrate scholar Sylvia Wynter’s concept “on being human” and Sister Souljah’s classic novel, The Coldest Winter Ever, to reimagine identity beyond societal stereotypes and recognize Hip Hop as a form of cognitive justice and cultural resistance. The collective will explore how Hip Hop empowers Black women to challenge dominant narratives, express their experiences, and foster a sense of community.

Kashema Hutchinson (PhD in Urban Education) and Chinyere Okafor (Doctoral Candidate in Critical Social Psychology) are the co-facilitators.

Course Topics Include:

  • Womanism & Intersectionality
  • Policies & Procedures
  • Truth, Knowledge and Power
  • Knowledge of Self and Community

Wynter Wonderland will also cover additional works by Zora Neale Hurston, Dr. Joan Morgan, and EbonyJanice to name a few.
