wynter wonderland: the course

Wynter Wonderland is a transformative 8-week virtual course that critiques Western concepts of “the human” and emphasizes the decolonization of knowledge with a Hip Hop womanist lens. This course focuses on Black women to explore race, gender, and colonial power structures. This interdisciplinary course integrates scholar Sylvia Wynter’s concepts “on being human” and Sister Souljah’s classic novel, The Coldest Winter Ever, to reimagine identity beyond societal stereotypes and recognize Hip Hop as a form of cognitive justice and cultural resistance. The collective will explore how Hip Hop empowers Black women to challenge dominant narratives, express their experiences, and foster a sense of community.

Kashema Hutchinson (PhD in Urban Education) and Chinyere Okafor (Doctoral Candidate in Critical Social Psychology) will co-facilitate the course.

Course Topics Include:

  • Womanism & Intersectionality
  • Policies & Procedures
  • Truth, Knowledge and Power
